RE: Is the midwest the best place to own a RV today?

No one in their right mind would want to move to Western Washington, All it ever dose up here is RAIN,RAIN. That is what it's doing right now.
We also have those really big and bad Earthquakes, Oh yes every once in awhile one of our big Mountains blow up. It's really not a very safe place to live, so better not come this way.
Hobo As Hobo mentioned there is considerable rain on the west side. All the rain causes those folks to get web feet and watered brains. Then they just sit around inside fancy buildings sipping yuppie drinks and dreaming up ways to make us east-siders miserable with their new rules and taxes. :R

RE: 401K

Dick, do you think interest rates are likely to rise anytime soon? This and CDs, seem to be what's weighing on most older RVer's minds lately with their 401K's.
Joe, I don't see interest rates rising much until after the election season. Too much political pressure to keep rates low to supposedly spur the economy.
But, regardless of interest rates, if folks don't have money to spend the current interest rate is a non-issue. There is little left in the housing equity market to borrow on, and most folks are already maxed out on their credit cards.
With the rise in energy, food, and other required living expenses most folks have little left for non-essential toy purchases.
The above comment partly explain why I see the stock market continuing to decline. As the elderly pull money out for retirement expenses there will be less money available to put back in thus lower stock prices. Purchase demand will be down and also the money supply to make purchases. Lower product demand (stocks) and less money available for purchases results in lower average prices.

RE: Another truck was stolen

Everyone needs to just Sheriff Joe in Arizona more power. He follows the laws of the land, but does it his way. He'd eliminate a lot of crime all over the country if he were completely in charge.
Sheriff Joe for President
Judge Judy for VP
Between the two a lot of problems would be expediently handled. :)

RE: 401K

you have not lost unless you sell.you're young.at the end of last year we had 8-10 yrs.worth of living expenses we had to do something with and put it in cd's.won't keep up with infl. but won't need our portfolio for awhile.been retired 10 yrs.,you have plenty of time,as long as you're in good funds. Quite frankly, I think you were very smart to put the money in CD's. Hopefully it was before last December when the rates started to drastically drop due to the Fed's giving money away.
I did the same thing with 90% of my cash and got a 5% rate. Problem is they will mature in the late fall and I'm not sure what to do then. :h

RE: 401K

I have about 10% of my retirement funds in a 401K. However, I really don't think the stock market is going to stabilize anytime soon and quite frankly I don't think I will see much gain on my funds. At one time the market was based on true capitalization of a given company. That is no longer true and the price of any stock is just speculation - just as the oil futures market is just speculation.
The saving rate in the US is a negative figure so who is going to replace the money pulled from the market by retirees? When is the last time you really dug into all the fees, expenses, and sales commissions reported with these funds. The fund managers are getting rich by skimming commissions while the average Joe investor is getting fleeced. I have investments in American Funds through Edward Jones and everyone and his brother-in-law is getting some kind of a cut or kickback on my purchases and operating fees. :(
Unemployment is increasing, inflation and stagflation is on the rise faster than wages, the dollar is continuing to weaken, the credit markets are tapped out, and consumer confidence is at a historical low.
So, tell me why the stock market will not continue it's decline to at least 8500?
Talk about the watered stock days of the late twenties. Well today the market is so legally corrupt only the rich and connected are skimming the profits.

RE: For you railroad buffs out there.

OK you rail history buffs - we took and excursion trip today on a Budd car.
So, can you tell us where this took place, what is unique about this rail car, and what engine and transmission powers this car?
Hint - don't slobber when giving your answer. :)

RE: Diesel on 101 in Oregon and Washington

Oregon Hwy 101 is not a normal truck route except for local deliveries so don't expect to find any large truck stops as one would find along the freeways. However, there will be a number of decent sized filling stations that also dispense diesel. Most of the logging and carrier trucks use the card lock locations.

RE: Seattle has officially lost it's pro basketball team......

Seattle built a new stadium for the Seahawks & Mariners, but they wouldn't build one for the .... the .... ummm.... uh... basketball team???? Seattle did not pay for the facilities but rather the taxpayers of the entire state paid for a few Seattleites to get rich. :M Quite frankly I'm fed up with paying taxes to support the spoiled brats and would just as soon see them all leave.

RE: July 1st another stupid, ill thought out California Law!

As most every state has a inattentive driving and / or negligent driving statute it seems these new laws are just "do gooder" type things that do little more than adding more weight and wasted space to the lawbooks. Why not just enforce the current laws already on the books? :R
Yeah, I know....them legislative numskulls have to look like they are actually accomplishing something. :h

RE: Did Anyone See the Special on the Winnebago Factory?

I worked at a major RV dealer/service center a couple of years ago. You couldn't give me a Rexhall product. I've seen too many of them in the shop and know what the service techs say about them.
Most of us who own a Rexhall product would disagree. I have had very few problems with mine considering the complexity of the product.

RE: Warren Buffett says

Well Lorne, ...yes we speculate on what we expect the economy to do in the near term. However, at least our speculation is not increasing the cost of living. :)
Now for a little more coal on the fire:
The majority of our government debt is held by foreign interests (How many US Savings Bonds have you purchased recently? :B) as the dollar was considered a save haven investment. If the dollars is rapidly dumped in favor of the Euro we will have another nail in the economic coffin. The dollar is already weak and devalued but at least still holding some value.
The past month we have been traveling across the country from Washington to Michigan. I have noticed thousands and thousands of acres of farmland under water. Some land was planted and then flooded but the majority was not even planted. While this situation saved many thousands of gallons of tractor diesel the end result will be a major economic drain with several vectors.
I have also noticed millions and millions of square feet of vacant commercial and factory buildings. That must indicate a great economic boom huh???? :h
Almost all the campgrounds have been near empty with the exception of the holiday weekends. The owners say tourism is down at least 50%. Gee, another great economic boom indicator. I'm quite sure these business owners would say they are feeling a recession.
Most of the towns we travel through are starting to look like dried grapes and I don't mean they are making wine. Rather, the look of prunes comes to mind. :R
Oh, there is one growth market I'm sure you can make a buck in - The child texting market is going wild. Perhaps Vodaphone is a good stock to purchase. :)
